Accidentally pressing ons on touch screen phones?

hi I have really small hands and I find when typing or just generally using my touch screen phone (htc wildfire) I keep accidentally hitting ons with the fleshy part at the bottom of my thumb. is this normal and do u get used to it or is it because i have small hands?
